Tattoo artists, graphic designers, carvers, painters, block printers, and ANYBODY with a creative bent… This is your opportunity to become part of the Temple Family!
We want YOUR designs for the Temple of Transition’s decorative panels, to be placed on the outside walls of the five outer towers. Each of the selected designs will be mounted on each tower, and there will be two mirrored panels opposite each other, with four designs on each face. This means we’ll need twenty-four unique designs.
Each panel is to be CNC routed from plywood sheets measuring two feet by four feet of plywood. They will be displayed on each of the six central temple faces like this:
Examples have been posted to our Facebook page, here: http://on.fb.me/iSN4BQ
What We Are Looking For
As you would expect, mostly we are looking for originality in your design.
Designs should be contiguous—that is, without “floating” islands like the hole in a donut. This is due to the abilities of the CNC routing machine. Imagine you are designing a kind of one-piece stencil.
While there is some room for artistic license, please stay within the dimensions above, and keep in mind the five central themes of the Temple of Transition, the stages of passage through Life:
- Birth
- Growth
- Union
- Decay
- Death
Take your inspiration from anywhere you please… at the same time, we do have a penchant for designs based on Celtic, Maori, Polynesian, and Native American styles. That said, hey—express yourself!
Tattooists all over the world, rejoice! Tattoo-style designs are most welcome.
Your design submissions must also be in black & white; 2-dimensional; and simple enough for the routing machine to negotiate.
