CNC Panels
The Temple has room for decorative panels of every shape and size, and to date, we have identified a need for over 300 sheets of ply cut with delicate shapes & symbols!
The Temple crew would love to work with CNC operators within the Burning Man community to get as much of the Temple built by burners as possible, even though we know we may end up having to get some of this work done by a machine shop in Reno (but since its helping the locla economy, well, there’s an upside)…
We’re gonna do our best to keep this decorative work as simple as possible: no mitre cuts, no routing, nothing beyond simple cutting in two axes, and we’ve got an army of volunteers all chomping at the bit to add the finishing touches to these panels.
We would love to work with machines both big and small – not only do we have big flat panels to create, but we’ve got many gothic arches to build, and each arch will by built up by many small trapezoidal panels butted edge to edge into a perceptual arch.
The appearance of these panels is heavily influenced by Maori & Celtic symbology & art. Although not yet finalised (and we really realy would love to hear input from the CNC community about how to approach designing for CNC) some of the shapes we’ll be looking to produce might look a little like these images:
Working with our CNC collaborators, the Temple design & architecture crew will be able to produce .DXF files of all shapes required, and indeed we’ll be happy for collaborators to get involved in every aspect of the design process too!
If you are a CNC superstar, of any capability, we’d love you to get involved by letting us know your interest via this brief online form, and we’ll get back to you in short order
Much Love, the Temple crew!
